The Sweetbriar love affair with Labrador Retrievers
began in 1985. Guiding Eyes for the Blind had placed an ad in our local paper
looking for foster homes for puppies in their guide dog program. We responded
to the ad and continued to raise seven Labradors for Guiding Eyes. In
the process we became passionately convinced that this was the breed for us.
As
our own Labrador family grew from one to four, we started looking for more
acreage with a pond. We found a little piece
of “dog heaven” in Bloomfield, New York and settled in to establish
our hobby kennel, Sweetbriar Labradors. The versatility of the breed led
to our involvement in conformation, obedience and field work. Our goal has
always been to title each dog in the performance events while showing them
in conformation. The many hours that we’ve spent training in the field,
as well as attending obedience and handling classes, have resulted in well-socialized,
loving companions that are truly a part of our family. Along the way, we’ve
met many wonderful Labrador friends (of the two-legged sort).

dogs in our breeding program have medical clearances for hips, elbows
and eyes. Each breeding is researched extensively in order to select the
stud dog that will best compliment our female’s
lines. Likewise, we carefully screen prospective puppy buyers
to insure that our puppies are placed in secure, loving homes as indoor members
of the family.

friendly, workaholic Labrador Retriever!
